Acquire Board Game Review
Acquire is a classic business strategy board game that has been going strong since 1962. Using nothing but your wealth and wits, you must vie against other business magnates in this game of mergers and acquisitions – buying, trading, and selling stocks in the worlds biggest hotel chains in order to get the greatest return on your investments.
Acquire was designed by Sid Sackson in 1962, and has been among the most popular board games in its many versions since those days. Part of its long-lasting appeal is its simplicity and the ease in learning how to play it. The game comes with just a board, tiles, company counters, stock cards and cash. And the gameplay all boils down to just two actions: placing tiles and buying shares.
Although the basics of Acquire are pretty simple, there is a fair amount of challenge in deciding where you place your tiles and which shares you buy. Since there are other players trying to make their millions as well, you have to be very strategic in your decisions to ensure you profit from them much more than your competitors do. It wouldnt be in your best interests to hand another player a cool grand!
Placing tiles is how you start, grow and merge hotel companies in Acquire. And the board is a representation of the “business playing field”, where you can see how each hotel chain can grow and merge. When you create a group of 2 or more adjacent tiles, you are in essence starting a new company. When you place a new tile next to an existing company, you are growing that company. When the tile you place connects 2 separate companies, you have merged those 2 companies.
The other part of the game is buying shares. Having shares in a company means you have partial ownership of it and can profit if it grows or merges. When a company grows, its share value grows as well, benefiting its owners. And when a company is acquired by a bigger company, its owners get bonuses and can trade in their stock in the defunct company for shares in the larger company.
The last 2 paragraphs describe pretty much all the mechanics in the game, but what makes Acquire so interesting is the amount of strategy required to be able to use those simple mechanics effectively. Youll have to worry about liquidity; buying lots of shares early is good, but if your company doesnt get merged, you end up with not enough cash to use later on. Youll also have to worry about majority shareholders; the player with the most shares in a company gets a huge bonus when that company gets merged.
There will be a lot of maneuvering in each game. Players will be jockeying to be the majority shareholder in companies that are about to get merged. You can even withhold the crucial tile that would merge two companies until you are in a position to take advantage of that merge. The amount of strategy involved is surprising considering the simplicity of the game rules and objectives.
There are a couple of issues with the game though that might detract from the enjoyment of playing it. Unfortunately, ingame cash is both the main method of buying shares, and the main form of scoring. Therefore, the player who is lucky enough to profit from the first few merges may turn out to be a runaway leader because he can use that cash advantage to generate an even bigger lead in both cash and endgame scoring. That dependence on initial luck and the crucial first merges might not be attractive to some players.
A major part of the appeal of Acquire is the fact that it can be taught to new players in less than 10 minutes, since the basic rules are so simple. This easy learning curve, together with all the advanced business strategy that can be used by experienced players, makes this an enduring game that has unsurprisingly remained strong for nearly 50 years! The game can be played by between 3 and 6 players, and games typically last between 1 and 1.5 hours.

War 2 Glory Game Review
Before you start playing War 2 Glory, you have to create the commander that you will have to be. You can choose to be either a male or female commander. Theres nothing special about the male commanders but the female commanders portraits will look familiar to some people. One of the female commanders looks like pop diva, Christina Aguilera, while another closely resembles Britney Spears. Im pretty sure this game got pictures of hot models to attract its target audience, but I highly doubt girls like that will ever become army commanders…
War 2 Glory a traditional RTS game. Before you head off into battle, you will need to build houses for your soldiers to live in and build your base. If you are not a fan of the RTS genre, theres a chance you probably wont like playing this game.
This is mainly because a bit of patience and a lot of skills are required to enjoy these types of games. Much like most other games, you will be left with low resources and skills at the very beginning. It can be a bit tedious having to build all the necessary buildings to allow your military to prosper.
The tutorial is very brief and does not tell you much in the way of handling combat. All it tells you is how to build your military base and prompts you to visit the games official website for a FAQs page. The FAQs page is helpful, but I would rather have the game itself explain everything to the player instead. Once you get all that boring stuff out-of-the-way, only then can the real fun begin.
The great thing about War 2 Glory has that many other browser-based titles dont, is that theres actually some audio in the game. It can be a little boring playing a war-based game without any sounds of explosions and gunfire on the battlefield.
The online community is helpful too as there is a chat feature integrated within the game that allows you to ask them for any hints or tips you may want answered. With that being said, you are able to also just declare war with any of the other players in the gaming world you occupy.
Before you declare war, you have the option to even “scout” your enemies by sending out your troops to spy on what they are doing. Unlike other military-based games you have the option to strike from the air, sea or by land.
Graphically, the game is highly detailed and resembles many RTS PC games that were released back in the late 90s. Its good to know that the developer has kept things authentic as you have the option to choose from over 40 WWII vehicles. The world map is really huge so you can expect hours of gameplay conquering other peoples bases.
War 2 Glory is a great game for the patient RTS player. The only flaw in the game is the “Rookie Protection Mode”. This feature prevents rookie players from engaging from any combat for 7 days unless they level up. It does get a little time-consuming but once you build your army, destroying other peoples armies can be dangerously addictive.

Pokemon Black Review
Pokémon Black is the latest edition added to the popular Pokémon video game series along with Pokémon White. This time designers of the game have introduced many new features and a new environment never before seen in any Pokémon games. With all the new features and improved graphics it is bound to win the hearts of Pokémon lovers.
Typically Pokémon games are based in a village and forest environment and the story hardly involved the city life but this time with the Black version this is different. This time the story moves around a city called black city which is a major difference than all other Pokémon version released.
The city offers some distinct advantage to the gamer. You will find lots of trainers in the city and training and level up for Pokémon you catch is really easy. The trainers drop a lot of rare items that will give you an extra advantage in the battles. However, new Pokémon available to catch is less than what is available in the white version.
The most powerful Pokémon in the Pokémon Black version is a white dragon called Reshiram that attack with fire. The attack power is high but it cant move as fast as its main opponent Zekrom from the White version.

The black version introduces new rotation battle system. You can enter a battle with three Pokémon but can only send one at your turn. PS4 – Lots of Rumors
With every passing day more and more rumors are being generated by the ever-productive online rumor mill with regards to the release of Sonys PS4. The PS4 is the working name given to the PS3 sequel expected to hit shelves within the next 12-18 months. There has been no official word on the console from developers Sony yet, but this of course hasnt stopped wild speculation that development will begin soon which is founded on several factors:
- Consoles tend to last for around six years before a sequel is released which is backed up by the gaps between PS1, PS2 and PS3.
- Nintendo is already beginning to leak information regarding its Wii sequel currently codenamed Project Cafe.
- PC graphics are beginning to leave console graphics behind, and games like the Uncharted series seem to have pushed the PS3 as far as it can go in terms of graphics capability and physics.
This all suggests we might see a PS4 on the market some time soon and rumors and speculation seem to support this theory.
So what can we expect from a PS4 once it arrives? Well first of all we should expect a giant jump forward in power and this has been noted in all previous examples of games consoles with the general trend being for consoles to roughly double in terms of their performance. This would result in photo-realistic graphics and that in turn would continue the trend towards more cinematic gameplay for the games. It is fair to anticipate that this graphical leap will be most pronounced for the PS4 as PlayStation has always aimed at the core gamer market – the market of gamers who like realism and shoot em ups and who are generally an older male demographic. This is in stark opposition to, for instance, Nintendo, who tend to instead aim their products at a younger family market and both genders. This also means we can expect fewer gimmicks when it comes to Sony. True to form on the other hand the Project Cafe has already been revealed to feature a controller with its own monitor. That said, it will be interesting to see whether the success of the Wii, Kinect and Move lead to any developments in controller technology – something like a motion sensor in the controller for instance.
Sony have also shown an interest lately into moving into the arena of downloadable content – as proven by the PS Go which featured entirely downloadable games. Something similar for a new home PlayStation device wouldnt be out of the question then especially with the success of games on the PlayStation Network online service.
There are also many new technologies being constantly developed that could be implemented for a future PlayStation. For instance controllers that pick up brainwaves have always been shown to be possible and more and more devices and companies are now using the concept of a cloud for storing information remotely. Perhaps well see these in the next console or perhaps that wont be a reality until the first 9th generation console…
